Love’s labour

There is nothing about Jessie Ware that I don’t like. Her new album is a lexicon of the many faces of Devotion, the brightest and greatest of which belongs to one of a saviour. In “Taking in water“, she sings about how one needs to sink sometimes in order to let others stay afloat, her voice a delicate balance of of grace and steel. I love the overall sentiment of the song, of how devotion is a tedious labour, a burning candle that dies slowly to give light to others. For most of the time, it takes effort to unearth the treasure at the bottom of the ocean and love is vindicated when no one gets left behind. Beautiful theory.. great song.
